The project that has been financed is entitled "Cell biology of rare monogenic neurological KCNQ disorders".

In this project, the efforts of various biomedical research groups will be united in order to advance our understanding of neurological disorders caused by dysfunction of KCNQ ion channels. Our efforts will also be directed at studying possible therapeutic approaches to benefit those suffering from such conditions.

For this reason the consortium will adopt a multidisciplinary approach that will address all aspects, from the fundamental cellular changes produced by the genetic changes in KCNQ channels, to the design of drugs that might help in redressing or alleviating the problems that are generated.

In this way we believe that the results that will be generated in this project may have a bearing in areas far most extensive than that of the monogenic neurological KCNQ disorders alone.
